Submissions



Eligibility

Our Heritage, Our Planet Film Week accepts films in any genre with themes related to 1) Lands and Nature, 2) Climate Crisis, 3) Environmental Justice, and 4) Ocean and Waterways completed in 2016 or later. 

We accept the following types of submissions:

  • Shorts - In order to submit to this category, the total running time of the film needs to be less than 40 minutes (including credits).

  • Features - In order to submit to this category, the total running time of the film needs to be 40 minutes or over (including credits). Features and shorts may be Animation, Live Action, Documentary, Art/Experimental, or Narrative.

  • Music videos - In order to submit to this category, the total running time of the film needs to be 5 minutes or less (including credits).

  • Commercials and Public Service Announcements - In order to submit to this category, the total running time of the film needs to be 60 seconds or less.

  • Webisodes - In order to submit to this category, the total running time must be 3-15 minutes in length, no more than 20 minutes. 

  • TV Shows - In order to submit to this category, the total running time of the film needs to be 60 minutes or less (including credits).

 

Selection

  • A panel of filmmakers, educators, Hispanic Access Foundation staff, media and conservation professionals chooses films that will be showcased in the film week. 

  • A panel of filmmakers, educators, media and conservation professionals chooses films for film week awards. 

 

Categories 

Lands and nature

Cultural, religious, and ancestral connections to nature and the land; adventure stories; ecosystems and biodiversity on land; parks and protected areas on land; nature-based solutions; land-based natural resources; urban nature; traditional land management knowledge and practices; restorative agriculture; etc.

Climate crisis

Stories of climate hazards such as flooding, sea level rise, wildfires, hurricanes, extreme heat, or drought; climate risks to people, ecosystems, and biodiversity; climate solutions; urban sustainability; threats from fossil fuels and greenhouse gases; threats from plastics; climate governance; etc.

Environmental Justice

Connections between pollutants and health; nature and health; correcting historic injustices; ties between racial justice, civil rights, social rights, and environmental and climate justice; just food systems; just transition; just recovery from the pandemic; etc.

Ocean and waterways

Cultural, religious, and ancestral connections to waterways and the ocean; ocean and water governance; water protectors; water and marine ecosystems and biodiversity; freshwater conservation; ocean and freshwater natural resources; water adventures; etc.
